Copa-Cogeca’s Working Party on Research & Innovation and ETP 'Food for Life' presents a Joint statement on common strategic priorities for Research and Innovation
The EU’s future Research & Innovation policy plays a fundamental role in helping the EU agri-food sector to address major global challenges. It is crucially important to find solutions that will enable enhancing its sustainability and competitiveness, and contribute to the implementation of the UN 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and of the Paris Agreement adopted at the COP21.
Research & Innovation and the uptake of new technologies provide the conditions which allow the European agri-food sector to better contribute to accommodating the increase in societal demands, while helping to overcome present and future challenges like climate change and depopulation of rural areas. Moreover, it opens up opportunities like the further development of the bioeconomy, digitalisation and the use of new technologies.
For these reasons, Copa-Cogeca’s Working Party on Research & Innovation and ETP Food for Life have collaborated in order to establish R&I’s strategic priorities for the next programming period. The document attached is just the first step towards a coordinated approach to Research & Innovation actions regarding the EU agri-food sector.
